VINEYARD: THE DIAPOROS BLOCKS
Diaporos represents a visionary exploration of Xinomavro’s elegance, crafted from select vines in one of the highest-quality blocks at the Kir-Yianni Estate vineyard in Naoussa. Block #5, distinguished by its steep slopes and high elevation (230–240 metres), produces exceptional Xinomavro. The Syrah component is sourced from some of the vineyard’s oldest vines, which consistently deliver grapes of remarkable quality.
2019: A BRIEF OVERVIEW
The 2019 vintage is celebrated as an excellent year. A cold winter, a notably rainy spring, and a long, dry summer were followed by two months (August and September) of ideal conditions, with significant day-night temperature fluctuations. Green harvesting was employed to further enhance quality. Harvest: Hand-picked with strict selection—Syrah in early September and Xinomavro at the end of October.
WINEMAKING
Xinomavro: Grapes underwent rigorous sorting on a conveyor belt. Cold soaking for 7 days at 8–10°C. Fermentation with pigeage in open French oak vats (5 tons) for 10–15 days at 20–26°C. Post-fermentation maceration for 10–12 days. Malolactic fermentation occurred in new French oak barrels, followed by 18 months of maturation in 228 L French oak barrels (1st, 2nd, and 3rd use).
Syrah: Cold soaking for 5–7 days at low temperatures. Fermentation at 22–24°C. Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels. Maturation in 225 L French oak barrels (20% first use) for 14 months. After maturation, the wine was transferred to stainless steel tanks, and the Xinomavro and Syrah were blended in the Xinomavro barrels.
TASTING NOTE
A deep red hue with purple highlights introduces this expressive wine. The nose reveals complex layers of ripe strawberry and violet, enriched with notes of vanilla and chocolate. The Syrah contributes sweet spices and a peppery character that elevate the aromatic profile and extend the aftertaste. On the palate, vibrant acidity enlivens the rich, concentrated body, complemented by robust structure and intense flavours. This wine boasts a long ageing potential, promising continued evolution in the bottle.
